GAYVN Nomination #7 – Am I The Susan Lucci of Gay Porn?

The 2009 GAYVN nominations were just announced and I am pleased to say that I have been nominated again! My co-editor Kawai and I have just been nominated for “Best Editing” for Bruce Cam’s final flick “Breakers“.  This will be the 7th time I have been nominated for “Best Editing”.  Some how that trophy always remains just out of reach.  I started thinking that I just may be the Susan Lucci of Gay Porn.

In my career of making movies for TITAN I have been blessed to have received 7 GayVN nominations.

• I was nominated in 2008 Gunnery Sgt. McCool, Titan Media, James Sheridan

It has been great to be recognized by the industry so many times  for doing the job that I love, however like Ms. Lucci until a few years ago,  I just haven’t been able to seal the deal and bring the award home (at least not yet!) .

Breakers was a joy to work on but it was a lot of work as well.  We had just bought our new cameras and lenses and  had shot nothing with them before this shoot.  We just dove right in.  Thankfully Bruce Cam is a master of getting the most out of a camera.  In addition to the new HD cameras,  we had all new editing equipment and software to learn and new file formats to work with.  It presented a number of challenges.  The first of which was figuring out how to deal the 50+ hours of source footage shot in HD!  Did I mention we had only 4 weeks to do it all? When it was all said and done there were 4 separate edits of the movie and 5 edits of the trailer.  Perhaps the biggest challenge was trying to cut this epic down to a one disc, and releasing the movie as the first Blu-Ray title in Gay Porn history.  There was a lot of learning along the way especially mastering the down conversion from HD to SD.  Not to mention learning HD Color Spaces and Blu-Ray Codecs.  I can’t tell you how thrilled we were when the Blu-Ray came back from duplication and we could see that all of the detail we had captured in the camera was still there on the final product.  I am very proud of this movie am very glad to be nominated for my part in it.   I hope you all enjoyed it.
